Sklondontherapy is an independent psychology service delivered by Dr Shomsi Khanom whom complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which is UK and EU wide. These rights cover the safeguarding of personal data, protection against the unlawful processing of personal data.  By providing your personal data, you acknowledge that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement. It is assumed by contacting the service and or further engagement that you are consenting to this privacy statement.    

Sklondontherapy offers psychological assessments and treatments.  Dr Shomsi Khanom is a Clinical Psychologist and approaches her work with utmost regard for her client’s wellbeing and rights.  The Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC) and The British Psychological Society (BPS) regulate and inform her practice.  You can find out more about her professional and legal responsibilities on their respective websites. 



SKlondontherapy takes privacy seriously and is committed to handling your personal data that is fair and secure.  Dr Shomsi Khanom is committed to the seven principles set out in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and will take all reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse.  It is important that you understand what data will be collected and how it will be used.  This privacy policy applies to all personal data that is collected and used. 

The Data That Is Collected About You: 
Dr Shomsi Khanom will collect basic personal and ‘sensitive’ information such as name, contact details, telephone number or email address and brief description of your difficulties to determine whether therapy is the right place for you.  If you choose to proceed further details are collected during assessment and therapy meetings and notes will be taken regarding your psychological health along with self-report measures and questionnaires.  All this information is gathered solely for the purposes of providing therapy to you. 

Why Is Information collected:  
There are several legal reasons that Dr Shomsi Khanom can process your personal information. 

She collects information about you to provide you with psychological assessment and treatment.
  1. In order to communicate with you in a personal way.  The legal basis for this is a legitimate interest.
  2. It is in Dr Khanom’s legitimate interest as a psychologist to collect your personal data to offer you a psychological service.  She also collects sensitive ‘sensitive category’ data (such as details about your psychological difficulties).  
  3. Lawful reason for doing so is in order to provide a safe and professional therapy service. The legal basis for this is the contract with you.
  4. Process your payment for services she provides. The legal basis for this is the contract with you.  

Data Storage: 
All data that is held, is stored in the United Kingdom.  Dr Shomsi Khanom does not store any personal data outside the EEA.   

How Long is the information stored for -data retention
 Your information is kept for the time necessary to provide the therapy service requested, however outside of this your details and session notes will be kept for a period of 7 years following the end of treatment to comply with the legal obligations that are placed on Dr Khanom by her insurers.  If there are paper notes then they are kept securely in a locked filling cabinet that is only accessible by Dr Khanom.  Electronic letters/notes are multifactor password protected.  After 7 years all the data will be securely deleted (paper copies will be destroyed using a cross-cutting shredder at the time of destruction). 

Vital Use Of Data: 
Client details are kept strictly confidential and are not shared by third parties for marketing purposes.  However, there are certain limitations placed on Clinical Psychologists.  Dr Khanom may use your data typically in an emergency, where this is necessary to protect you or someone else.  Dr Khanom does not discuss your personal information with third parties, except for the purposes of supervision a requirement for psychologists.  However, if in her professional opinion there was an immediate risk of harm to yourself or someone else then she may have to share your personal information with a third party such as your GP or emergency service without first obtaining your consent. This might be because it is not practically possible to obtain your consent or because attempting to do so may lead to a delay in accessing help and therefore endanger your life or that of someone else.  In such circumstances she will only share personal information that is relevant and necessary to protect you or someone else. 

Your Rights 
You have rights relating to the information held to verify the accuracy or to ask for it to be supplemented, updated and corrected. This enables you to have any incomplete or inaccurate data we hold about corrected.   You also have the right to request deletion/erasure of your personal data.  Please note, however it may not always be possible to comply with this request of erasure for specific legal reasons which will be notified to you, if applicable.    Dr Khanom recognises that on the rare occasion clients may wish to exercise their rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (2018) and make a subject access request (SAR) in respect to their personal information held.   You have the right to request a copy of the information held about you.  If at any time you wish to exercise your right under the Act you should put your request in writing to Dr Khanom and provide evidence of your identity such as a copy of your passport or driver’s license and proof of your address. When Dr Shomsi Khanom receives evidence of your identity, she will respond to your request within 30 calendar days.   You have the right to end therapy at any point and to request no further contact.  Usually, post discharge, your data is kept in archive for 7 years before being shredded.

At Sklondontherapy there is a commitment to continually improve communication methods and adding new features to this website so if there are any changes to the data protection practices you will be notified on this page, so it is encouraged that you check this page frequently. 

Anonymous Data Collected Through This Website In addition to the information that is collected as described above, Sklondontherapy uses technology to collect anonymous information about the use of this website.  This technology does not personally identify you-it simply enables us to gather information about the visitors and their use of this website.   

Cookies: 
In order to collect the anonymous data described above, Sklondontherapy may use session ‘cookies’ that remain in the cookies files of your browser until the browser is closed.  Cookies help to identify and track visitors and their website access preferences.  Website visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using this website.  

How To Complain About Any Issues Regarding the Processing of Your Data: 
If You feel that your data has been handled incorrectly, or you are unhappy about the way Dr Khanom has dealt with your query regarding the way she used your personal data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) which regulates the use of information in the UK.
